Healthcare IT
Services.

From major acute trusts to single-site GP surgeries, healthcare runs on small windows of time, clinical sessions that can't slip, medication rounds that can't pause, residents whose routines anchor their wellbeing. CoreComms designs and installs the networks, WiFi, CCTV and phone systems underneath all of that for hospitals, GP surgeries, dental practices and care homes across the North West and West Yorkshire. We're proud partners of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and Cygnet Healthcare, among others.

NHS-READY

NHS-Ready IT & Networking for Healthcare.

Healthcare IT is a different discipline from office IT. The networks need to be more resilient, the security has to evidence against named frameworks, the install has to fit around clinical hours, and the engineer turning up has to understand a clinical environment without being told.

We've built the practice around all of it:

Networks designed to align with the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT)
Clinical-grade WiFi with proper coverage in consulting rooms, treatment areas and dispensing windows
CCTV that supports patient and resident safety without overstepping privacy
Phone systems that handle high inbound call volume with proper queueing
Out-of-hours installs that don't take a single clinical session offline

If you're a practice manager, business manager or IT lead in primary care, dental, or social care, this page is for you. The deeper service detail lives on our healthcare IT services page; this page is the sector overview.

HOSPITALS & NHS TRUSTS

Hospital & NHS Trust Infrastructure.

We work at the larger end of healthcare too. Acute hospitals, specialist trusts and multi-site NHS estates, delivering the kind of network, WiFi and cabling infrastructure that clinical teams can lean on without thinking about it. We're proud partners of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and Cygnet Healthcare, among others, and bring that same standard of delivery. Phased, documented, clinically-aware, to every hospital project.

1

Acute Trust Infrastructure

Structured cabling, fibre backbones and resilient switching across wards, theatres, imaging suites and admin blocks. We design with redundancy in mind to dual paths, diverse risers, UPS-backed comms rooms, because in an acute setting a network outage is a clinical incident. Phased cutovers, out-of-hours commissioning, and full as-built documentation handed back to estates and digital teams.
2

Clinical-Grade WiFi at Scale

Hospital WiFi has to cover everything from cardiac wards to MRI corridors to outpatient clinics, with fast roaming for clinicians on PDAs and mobile carts, segregated SSIDs for clinical, corporate, medical-device and patient/visitor traffic, and predictable performance under heavy concurrent load. Predictive design, on-site validation surveys and post-install heatmaps as standard.
3

Compliance & Security

DSPT, Cyber Essentials Plus, NHS Data Security Standards and trust-specific information governance requirements. Network segmentation between clinical systems, medical devices, corporate IT and guest, hardened configurations, full asset documentation and audit-ready evidence packs. Designed alongside trust digital and IG teams from day one.

GENERAL PRACTICE

GP Surgery IT Support.

UK general practice runs on a tight stack: clinical software (EMIS Web or SystmOne, occasionally Vision), NHSmail, networked imaging, IP telephony with patient queueing, video consultation, and increasingly self-service kiosks and patient portals. The network underneath has to handle all of it without becoming the bottleneck.

Clinical Networks

We design GP networks with QoS for clinical traffic, proper VLAN segregation between clinical, admin, guest and IoT, and resilient paths where the practice depends on continuous connectivity. Where you've got two surgeries operating as one practice, we'll integrate the networks so users can move between sites without friction.

GP Surgery CCTV

Reception, dispensing windows, waiting areas, external entrances, car parks. CCTV in a GP setting needs careful design. Patient privacy, recording retention, GDPR-compliant signage, access controls, and a written purpose for each camera. We design with the practice manager and DPO so the system supports patient and staff safety without overreaching.

EMIS / SystmOne

Both EMIS Web and SystmOne are bandwidth-modest individually but unforgiving of latency and packet loss. We design networks that deliver predictable performance to clinical workstations, configure backups and synchronisation properly, and integrate with NHS Spine connectivity where the practice runs Spine-connected services.
DENTAL

Dental Practice IT.

Dental practices have specific needs that differ from general practice: imaging volumes are higher, practice management software varies more, and many practices run a mix of NHS and private patient revenue with different IT touchpoints.

Practice Management

Software of Excellence (SOE), R4, Carestream Dentrix Ascend, Lily Head Dental Software and others. Each has slightly different network and integration requirements. We've installed for practices on most of them and know the behaviour, what backs up cleanly, what dislikes a flaky link, what needs static IPs.

Imaging

Intra-oral scanners, panoramic radiography, cone-beam CT. All generate substantial files (200MB scans are routine) that need to move from chair to server to viewer reliably. We design backbone bandwidth, switch port assignments and storage paths so an imaging session doesn't queue behind email traffic.

Dental Practice CCTV

Reception, treatment-room corridors, dispensing or sterilisation areas, external entrances. As with GP, careful consideration of patient privacy and dignity, recording retention aligned to your DPIA, and signage that meets ICO guidance.
CARE HOMES

Care Home IT.

Care home IT spans a wider scope than GP or dental. Clinical records, resident WiFi, nurse call integration, family liaison portals, telehealth appliances, CCTV, and increasingly digital social care records (DSCR).

1

Resident WiFi

Residents and visiting families increasingly expect WiFi as a basic comfort. The challenge is providing it without compromising clinical and admin networks. We segregate properly, set bandwidth fairness across rooms, and configure reasonable filtering on the resident network where the home's policy requires it.
2

Care Home CCTV

Common areas only, corridors, entrances, communal lounges, dining rooms. Never resident bedrooms or bathrooms. Designed against CQC guidance, GDPR, and your home's safeguarding policy. Recordings stored on local NVR rather than cloud unless there's a specific reason otherwise. Signage that meets ICO standards.
3

Nurse Call

Modern nurse call systems (Aid Call, Static Systems, Tunstall, Spectralink) increasingly integrate with the IP network, paging to staff phones, escalation rules, integration with care planning software. We can install the network underneath and integrate with the nurse call vendor's platform.

COMPLIANCE

DSPT, Cyber Essentials & Compliance.

The two frameworks that come up in almost every healthcare IT conversation:

DSPT (Data Security and Protection Toolkit). All providers of NHS-funded health and care services must complete an annual DSPT submission. The technical control assertions cover patch management, antivirus, network segmentation, access control, backup and recovery, encryption, and asset management. We design networks that hold up against these assertions and supply the evidence (configuration documentation, test results, asset registers) you'll need at audit.

Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus. Increasingly required in NHS supply contracts and a useful baseline for any small healthcare provider. We install networks that meet the five technical controls (firewalls, secure configuration, user access control, malware protection, patch management) and can support clients through the certification process via an IASME-accredited body.

We don't hold these certifications ourselves at present. We design and install to the standards.

WIFI

Secure Healthcare WiFi.

Healthcare WiFi has stronger requirements than office WiFi: clinical-grade coverage in treatment areas (-65dBm minimum), fast roaming so a clinician walking between rooms holds their connection, full segregation between clinical, staff, guest and IoT traffic, and an audit trail of who connected when. We design and install accordingly. See our office WiFi page for the underlying installation methodology.
CCTV

Healthcare CCTV.

Patient safety, lone-worker protection, dispensing security, external entrance monitoring. Designed with privacy at the centre, never inside consulting rooms, treatment rooms or resident bedrooms. ICO-compliant signage. Retention aligned to a written purpose. Access logs on the recorder. Where the system needs remote viewing for the practice manager or out-of-hours response, we configure it securely with multi-factor authentication.

TELEPHONY

Telephone Systems for Healthcare Providers.

GP practices routinely take 200+ calls a morning during the 8am rush. Dental practices need predictable inbound queuing for new patient enquiries. Care homes need reliable internal paging plus family contact lines. We design cloud-hosted phone systems with the queueing, hunt groups, IVR and call recording that healthcare actually needs. Not generic SME telephony with the wrong feature set. See our VoIP phone systems page for the underlying telephony detail.
