Predictive & On-Site Audits

WiFi Site
Surveys.

A WiFi site survey is the difference between buying the right number of access points in the right places, and over-paying for too many or under-paying and discovering the dead zones later. CoreComms runs predictive and on-site WiFi surveys across the North West and West Yorkshire for offices, warehouses, schools, healthcare sites and any building where coverage and capacity matter.

PROFESSIONAL COVERAGE AUDITS

Professional WiFi Site Surveys & Coverage Audits.

A proper WiFi survey gives you a heatmap of expected (or measured) signal across the building, an access point placement plan, a capacity analysis showing whether the network will hold up under real load, and a bill of materials so the install can be quoted accurately.

It's one of the highest-return pieces of work you can commission. A survey typically costs less than a single misplaced access point and gives you the confidence to invest in the right design, first time.

For most offices a predictive survey is enough. For warehouses, multi-floor buildings, healthcare clinical environments and any site with unusual constructions, an on-site survey earns its place.

TWO FLAVOURS OF SURVEY

Predictive & On-Site WiFi Surveys.

Software-modelled

Predictive Survey

Software-based modelling of your floor plan, walls and AP placement, generating a heatmap of expected signal and capacity. Quick, cost-effective and the right answer for most office environments.1 to 3 working days turnaroundFloor-plan based RF modellingHamina, Ekahau & NetSpot Pro

WHEN A SURVEY EARNS ITS PLACE

When You Need a WiFi Survey.

Three scenarios where a survey is genuinely valuable rather than nice-to-have.

Pre-Install Planning

Before spending £5k to £50k on access points, switches, cable and labour, a survey prevents you buying too few APs (dead zones), too many (interference and waste), or APs in the wrong places (signal but no capacity at the busy desk cluster). We survey, design, then quote, rather than the other way round.

Compliance Requirements

Healthcare, manufacturing, retail (PCI-DSS), education and logistics increasingly need verified WiFi coverage records. A survey produces the kind of documentation auditors, insurers and accreditation bodies actually accept, heatmaps, capacity analysis and a measured baseline.

Troubleshooting Coverage Issues

Patchy connections, dropped video calls or devices that struggle to connect in certain areas. An on-site audit pinpoints whether it's signal strength, channel interference, capacity, AP placement or something further down the stack, and produces a clear, targeted remediation plan.

INDUSTRY-STANDARD METHODOLOGY

Ekahau-Style Audits.

Ekahau Sidekick · NetAlly AirMagnet

The output is the kind of document an enterprise IT director would accept, not a one-page screenshot from a free WiFi mapping app.

Ekahau is the industry-standard tool for professional WiFi surveys, used by major integrators globally. We run Ekahau-equivalent audits. Same methodology, same level of detail, same kind of report, using a mix of Ekahau Sidekick hardware and competing measurement kit depending on the site.

What makes an Ekahau-style audit different from a basic walkaround:

  • Hundreds of measurement points captured automatically as we walk
  • All radios on all bands (2.4GHz, 5GHz, 6GHz) measured simultaneously
  • Both passive (signal-only) and active (real-traffic) measurement
  • Channel utilisation captured to identify interference from neighbouring networks
  • Floor-by-floor heatmaps, recommendations and capacity analysis
WHAT YOU GET

Survey Deliverables.

Every survey we run produces the same set of usable documents. A procurement brief, a compliance record and an install plan in one PDF.

Heatmaps

Floor-by-floor heatmaps showing signal strength (dBm) at the operating frequencies, capacity (concurrent users per area), and any specific KPIs you care about, for example, -65dBm minimum for clinical wireless devices.

Capacity Analysis

Real-world capacity isn't just 'how many APs cover the building'. It's how many simultaneous users on what kind of traffic mix. A survey models device count, traffic profile and resulting AP loading, and tells you whether your design has headroom or is on the edge.

Recommended AP Placement

Quantity, model recommendation, mounting location, height, antenna type (omnidirectional vs directional) and orientation. Annotated on the floor plan with clear labelling, ready to hand to whichever installer you choose.

Bill of Materials

Itemised list of APs, switches with PoE+ requirements, structured cabling, mounts and brackets, and any specialist kit (outdoor APs, hardened enclosures, point-to-point links). Becomes the basis for any subsequent install quote.

SECTORS

Industries We Serve.

Healthcare

Verified coverage to clinical work areas and predictable signal for safety-critical wireless devices, vital signs monitors, infusion pumps, asset tags.

Manufacturing

Barcode scanning, mobile compute carts and production-line tablets need coverage that won't drop during a shift in heavy steel and EMI-rich environments.

Retail & Hospitality

PCI-DSS auditors increasingly want verified network maps; insurers ask for coverage documentation. A survey produces both.

Education

Ofsted and university accreditation occasionally ask about WiFi coverage in teaching spaces. Surveys give you the documented record.

Logistics

DC operators want documented coverage in racking aisles before peak season. And on-site surveys are the only way to capture real conditions inside dense racking.

Offices

From single-floor SME fit-outs to multi-storey HQ buildings, predictive surveys size the install correctly before quoting.
