Data Cabling in
Manchester.
Core Comms installs structured data cabling across Manchester: Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6a and Cat 7, with every port Fluke tested and documented at handover.
We're based in Trafford Park, M17, so the engineers who turn up are local. We cable offices, factories, schools and healthcare sites from the Northern Quarter out to Stockport, and the site survey that starts the job is free.
Structured Data Cabling Across Manchester.
Most of the Manchester network problems we get called to look the same. A meeting room drops video calls. A warehouse scanner loses signal at the far racking. A whole floor crawls every afternoon. Usually the cause sits in the cabling, which was never really designed. It accumulated, one patch lead at a time.
Our installs run end to end: survey, design, containment, cable pulls, terminations, patch panels, labelling, certification testing and a full handover pack. We plan the work around your business. In live offices that means evening and weekend cable pulls. In schools it means the summer holidays, and in factories it means working to the shift pattern. Most of our work is offices, but the same crews cable production units in Trafford Park, classrooms across the city and GP practices that need engineers in and out between clinical sessions. Where a run is too long for copper, or the link crosses between buildings on the same site, we put fibre cabling on the backbone and keep copper to the floor.
Manchester jobs are home turf because our unit is in Trafford Park. Surveys are easy to arrange at short notice, and if something ever needs a second visit, the engineer who installed your network cabling is about twenty minutes away. The team has more than 50 years' combined experience across cabling, telecoms, CCTV and AV, and Core Comms has traded from Manchester since 2019.
Cable Types We Install.
We install four copper categories. The right one depends on run lengths, bandwidth, the environment and how long the cable will stay in the walls. We'll recommend one at survey stage and price the alternatives so you can decide on numbers. The full side-by-side comparison lives on our main network cabling page.
Cat 5e
Cat 5e carries 1Gb to 100m and is still a current standard. We fit it in smaller Manchester offices on tight budgets, for top-ups to existing Cat 5e estates, and for short-lease serviced or converted space where the cabling comes back out within a couple of years. For longer-life installs the price gap to Cat 6 is small, and we'll usually quote you both.Cat 6
Cat 6 is the default for most Manchester office installs, 1Gb at every desk with headroom, 10Gb over shorter runs, and much better crosstalk than Cat 5e. We specify it for most refits, from Northern Quarter agency floors to Spinningfields professional services offices, anywhere the cabling needs to last five to ten years without becoming the bottleneck.Cat 6a
Cat 6a runs 10Gb to the full 100m, foiled as standard. We recommend it for new builds and full refits where cabling stays in the walls for 10 to 15 years, and anywhere dense WiFi is planned, since a busy Wi-Fi 6E or 7 access point can saturate a Cat 6 uplink. GP and dental practices across Greater Manchester get the same advice, as do schools cabling classroom by classroom.Cat 7
Cat 7 is fully shielded S/FTP cable for environments with real EMI problems. Trafford Park being a prime example, with heavy plant and high-load power runs next to data routes. We specify it for industrial control rooms and EMI-heavy floors. For a standard office it's overkill, and we'll talk you down to Cat 6a rather than sell you the dearer drum.New Builds & Office Refits.
New build is the cheap, easy time to cable properly. We join at drawing stage with your main contractor and M&E team, so containment and comms room space are specified before the plasterboard goes up. Cable gets pulled at second fix, then terminated, labelled and certified before fit-out finishes. Past jobs include office fit-outs in Spinningfields and warehousing and light industrial units across Trafford Park.
Refits are most of the work, though, and they rarely happen on empty floors. In live Manchester offices we phase the job floor by floor, with temporary patching so nobody loses a working port during cutover. Evening and weekend slots keep the disruptive parts out of your trading hours. If your existing cabling is a mystery, we audit it first: trace and label every port, certify what passes, and quote only for what needs replacing.
A cabling job is also the right moment to sort what runs over it. We install WiFi for Manchester businesses on the same programme, so access point drops go in while the ceiling tiles are already out. Sites that want cameras at the same time can add CCTV installation in Manchester to the same visit, using the same containment and one set of site access arrangements.

Salford Quays and MediaCity are ten minutes from the front door. Everything else we do locally is on our Manchester service area page.
We also run the same service across the M62: data cabling in Liverpool and data cabling in Leeds.
Testing & Certification.
Every port we install in Manchester is tested with a Fluke certifier against the standard for its category. The test covers length, attenuation, return loss and crosstalk, and you get the full results as a PDF report at handover. Manufacturer 25-year warranties depend on that report. So does your insurer at audit time, and so does whoever has to trace a fault in three years, because a certified baseline turns a long hunt into a short one.
Inherited a building with no test records? We'll re-certify the existing install and flag anything that won't hold its rated speed before you build on top of it.
Cabling FAQs.
Accredited, Insured and Site Safe.
Most Manchester facilities managers and main contractors check the paperwork before they let anyone near a live site, so here is ours in plain text rather than a wall of logos. The same standards apply on every job, from a single office floor in the city centre to a production unit in Trafford Park.
What we hold, and what turns up on site with the engineers:
If your site induction needs certificates, insurance details or method statements before we start, ask at survey stage and they come across with the quote. There is more on the team and how we work on our about page.
